How a Button-Up Shirt Should Fit
A button-up shirt shows every fitting mistake: a collar that gapes, shoulders that hang, a hem that is neither in nor out. Here is what to look for, and how the Prime Button-Up Shirt is built.
How the fit should sit
The shoulder seam should sit on the edge of your shoulder, not before it and not past it. The collar should close cleanly without pulling at the neck. The buttons should lie flat across the chest with no gaps between them. A relaxed fit adds ease through the body, so the shirt moves with you instead of pulling at the buttons.
Short sleeves: where they should end
A short sleeve should finish around mid-bicep and sit close to the arm without gripping it. Too long and it looks borrowed; too wide and it flares. The Prime sleeve is cut to that line.
The right length
A shirt made to be worn untucked should finish around the middle of the fly: long enough to cover the waistband, short enough to keep the proportions sharp. The Prime is cut to that length, so it looks finished worn out and tucks cleanly when the day calls for it.
Choosing a size
The Prime runs slightly large. Take your usual size for a relaxed fit, or size down if you are between sizes. Exact measurements are in the size chart on each product page.
Button-up or button-down?
The two are often confused. A button-up shirt fastens with buttons all the way down the front. A button-down shirt is a button-up whose collar points also button to the shirt. The Prime is a button-up with a clean collar that sits neatly on its own, no collar buttons needed.
Fabric, and why it keeps its line
The Prime is cut from the Rewind signature blend: breathable, lightweight and flexible, so it stays comfortable through long, warm days and holds its line from morning to evening.
Care
Gentle machine wash cold, no bleach, tumble dry low, and iron on a low setting if needed.
How to wear it
Buttoned with straight-cut trousers for the office. Open over a t-shirt for the evening. With regular fit shorts for the weekend.
Questions we get asked
Is the Prime short sleeve? Yes. Every Prime shirt has short sleeves, cut to finish at mid-bicep.
Should I size down? Only if you are between sizes. The fit already runs slightly large.
Does it work for the office? Yes. The collar and button front keep it sharp, and the relaxed fit keeps it comfortable all day.
